Halloween drinks from Hell

"Black Cat", 'black magic", 'black widow", just about everything associated with the color black would do very nicely for a Halloween drink name. Other Halloween cocktail drinks prefer red, (blood red) as the color of choice, with names like "blood bath", "bloody fingers", and of course, the old faithful "bloody Mary". Halloween drinkWhen the adults enjoy their Halloween party drinks, containing lots of alcohol, kids feast on revolting drinks of their own.

I really don't know how they can manage to gulp them down, with all those eyeballs swimming in the glass... So this year I came up with an idea of my own for such a special yucky drink, using the holiday colors, orange and black: How does a recipe mixing orange juice, coke and milk sound to you?

If Halloween is around the corner, try mixing the three ingredients and serve them at your kids party. The color is very appropriate - orangy grey... You can name it "witches mouthwash" and smile a toothless smile when you do. All you need to do is use a little black eye pencil on your teeth... Kids would love it.

If you need more ideas, try making a virgin version of the Halloween Alcoholic Drinks you're having. Happy Halloween!

When celebrating birthdays, students at St. Patrick's School can no longer bring in cupcakes, doughnuts or ice cream.Instead, they must take a healthy snack to share with classmates. The school has made other changes as well.Using candy or other food as a reward for behavior or as a class incentive is no longer allowed.Fast-food meals are no longer allowed in the cafeteria, and soft drinks are no longer allowed in the building. The Archdiocese of Indianapolis has adopted a wellness policy for its schools, as required by both the federal government and state law."We're mandated by the Archdiocese to follow their policy, but we had to write our own procedure on how to implement it," said St. Patrick's Principal Julie Bowers. The Archdiocese policy is "a little more specific than Vigo County [School Corp.] policy," she said....

Milfred: Don't break Downtown by 'fixing' it
Posted Tuesday, January 09, 2007 1:05:14 PM by Blog57 Team
Does anyone, other than perhaps The New York Times, seriously think that Downtown Madison is in trouble? The reality is that our Downtown has never been more fun or vibrant. Little more than a decade ago you could walk up King Street at night, and about the only food for sale was stale popcorn and candy bars at the barren Majestic Theater. Now you can find almost any food imaginable on King Street -- gourmet pizza from a wood-fired oven, duck sushi rolls, peanut stew with butternut squash. ....

Last fish

Did I want to borrow a plastic bead and line the poor dollies in the mouth when they made the mistake of touching that little store-bought plastic egg? Did I want one more fish that badly? - By Richard Chiappone December 2, 2005: When the sun rose at a few minutes before 10 this morning, the thermometer read a neat, round zero. It is snowing steadily and it's been like this for most of the past two weeks. My driveway could pass for a low-budget ski slope. We're burning armloads of beetle-killed spruce in the wood stove. The nuthatches and our woodpecker have fled south, to Kodiak or maybe even Sitka, leaving the bird feeder to the chickadees that will tough out the winter here. I live on the Anchor River, where the legal fishing season runs from Memorial Day to New Year's Eve....

City should let go of Loew's funding

T hrongs of costumed youngsters filled the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theater on Journal Square last week for the sixth annual Halloween party hosted by local radio and cable television personality Pat O'Melia. The evening was big fun. A trove of prizes were awarded for the best costume. Microwave ovens and vacuum cleaners were raffled off to lucky winners. The audience also was treated to a display of martial arts techniques by students of the New Jersey Tae kwon do Youth Foundation, located on Jersey City's Martin Luther King Jr. Drive; a spirited saber fencing demonstration by Steve Kaplan and Rosa Cartegena of Jersey City's Cobra Fencing Club; and a magic show by Luis Montenegro. Going by the grins on their faces, real estate developer Joe Panepinto, Ward B Councilwoman Mary Spinello and Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise - who acted as judges for the costume contest - enjoyed themselves as much as the kids....

:The humble rock star
Posted Friday, November 10, 2006 2:58:50 PM by Blog57 Team
Andrew McMahon is a version of the American dream. He likes Levis and Converse, Tom Petty and the subtle art of writing songs that both 12-year-old girls and college football players know by heart. Hes become: an entrepreneur, a rock star and a survivor all before his 25 birthday. The best part about him? Hes humble.Sorry we were late, he says after a delay. We were scrambling to buy Halloween costumes for our show so people wouldnt think we werent any fun.Imagine a rock star apologizing to a journalist. It truly was Halloween, and McMahon was on campus to play a show on the day of the devil at a Christian college with his group Jacks Mannequin. McMahon had previously built up a large fan base with his first long-time group, Something Corporate. The five-piece band, which is best described as Ben Folds meets Green Day, was known for hit songs like If U C Jordan, I Woke Up In A Car and Space....

This weekend, let the computer be your bartender

Tikibartv.com can give drink recipes during a party, while a new device can help vacuum the post party mess. Brian Immel - email the author The Daily Evergreen With a three-day weekend quickly approaching, I wanted to make sure you had enough to do with your unexpected free time. And voil, I open my trench coat of gems and share with you (at street value, of course) my delightful plan for time-wasters of fun. For the weekend, you will need to be skilled in the fine art of cocktail-making. This requires the careful eye of one of my favorite vidcasts, tikibartv.com. Tiki Bar is like having a study session for your math test with a group of friends, only to be rewarded with a nice A-plus on your mid-term the next day. I say its like that, because Tiki Bar is basically a study session bunch of strangers who dress up like theyre on Gilligans Island and teach you how to make a new cocktail every week only to reward you with pure pain if you dont study hard enough....

The Dowell American Legion Lady's Auxiliary hosted a Halloween Party in the Park Tuesday evening. The group offered trick-or-treaters and their families warm food and drinks, donated by the members of the organization and the community. The park was filled with orange lights and spooky decorations for the party and an constant flow of costumed kids made the celebration a success (top). Tamaroa Grade School held their annual Halloween parade and carnival Tuesday afternoon, offering a variety of games and prizes for the school's students. While weather forced the costume parade inside this year, the group still filled the gym to show off their costumes to their classmates. The event, sponsored by the PTO, allows four tickets for each student who attends school in costume, with additional tickets for 25....

Liberating fashion and music
Posted Friday, November 03, 2006 1:07:05 PM by Blog57 Team
Halloween is my favorite time of the year. People get dressed up and finally let go. There's something about costumes that liberate people. Costumes also expose people's creativity. The Monster Mash was a fusion of creativity and provided everyone with the opportunity to be creative whether they were playing in one of the bands or playing with fashion. Monsters and fairies, Playboy bunnies and drag queens flowed in and out of the Brass Rail Saturday to listen to four bands and celebrate the holiday. The first band that played was My Uncle is a Cannibal, a local Midwestern psychedelic jazz-rock group. They started the night off right with their ghoulish opening, hypnotic middle and monster mash end. I've followed this band since their beginning; they're original and refreshing to listen to....
